Justice for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women!

End the Harper government’s racism and environmental destruction!

This February, the Young Communist League of Canada stands in solidarity with those in the street demanding an inquiry into missing and murdered Indigenous women (MMIW). Both the annual day of action on February 14th, and the grassroots campaign “#ShutDownCanada”, send a necessary message that urgent action needs to be taken to end the oppression of Indigenous people.

Towards a united and militant 2015

The Young Communist League of Canada salutes the hard work of its members and friends during the year of 2014 and looks forward to the advancement of the struggles of the youth and student movement in 2015.

For the ruling class and their governments at the federal and provincial levels, 2014 was a year of continuing down the dangerous path of austerity and war. We saw the Conservative Party reach new lows in terms of fomenting occupation and reaction abroad; supporting a neo-Nazi backed government in Ukraine, wholeheartedly defending Israel’s massacre of more than 2000 Palestinians during the summer and joining in on the third invasion of Iraq this fall.

YCL-LJC Student Commission Statement on People’s Social Forum

Student Commission, YCL-LJC

August, 2014

Federal and Provincial Governments and big business want people to think that education is a privilege. A majority of students know better, and believe education is a right.

Provincial governments throughout Canada are working to privatize universities and colleges by reducing public funding, increasing tuition fees, and increasing the influence of big business. Some university institutions are even implementing “Program Prioritization Processes”, or PPP’s, which attack Liberal Arts and Social Science programs. In some cases these programs were won by student struggles in the 1960’s and 1970’s when progressive students demanded degrees in women’s studies, Indigenous studies, labour studies, and more.

Central Executive Committee, YCL-LJC

August, 2014

The Young Communist League – ligue de la jeunesse communiste (YCL-LJC) welcomes and actively supports the convening of the People’s Social Forum. We see this meeting of the labour movement, Indigenous activists, feminists, environmentalists, immigrant rights activists, and youth and student activists as a very useful tool in building unity in the struggle against big business and their puppet austerity governments across Canada. With participation from Quebec labour and social movements and Indigenous communities, as well as English-speaking Canada, the Forum gives us the opportunity to build unity based on equality between nations within the borders of Canada.

Celebrate the Summer of World Pride!

Joint statement from the Young Communist League of Canada and Communist Party of Canada

June, 2014

The Pride 2014 summer season is here, including World Pride in Toronto and hundreds of events in cities and towns right across Canada! This is a time to celebrate the gains by LGBTTQ+ communities, and to reflect on the challenges we still face. The past year has seen some remarkable victories, but also ominous signals of a dangerous pushback from anti equality forces.. More and more countries are recognizing same sex marriage and other fundamental LGBTTQ+ rights. In Canada, the struggle to end discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender expression/identity has seen new progress.
